Conventional computers process information in units called bits.
A bit can take only one of two values, either 0 or 1. For example, with 3 bits, there are 8 possible states (from 000 to 111), but they must be calculated one by one in sequence. As a result, exploring all possible combinations in large-scale and complex calculations requires enormous amounts of time.
In contrast, quantum computers use qubits (quantum bits), which can exist in a superposition state, representing both 0 and 1 simultaneously. Thanks to this property, 3 qubits can represent and process all 8 possible states in parallel at the same time.
Moreover, by leveraging other quantum-mechanical properties such as entanglement and interference, quantum computers can narrow down specific solutions at speeds that are practically impossible for classical computers to achieve.
This enables dramatic acceleration in solving problems such as combinatorial optimization and complex simulations, which would otherwise require vast amounts of time and computational resources with conventional methods.
